Shopping list and prep instructions

Congratulations on booking your Virtual Jam-boree®!

We’re so excited to share the art of crafting delicious homemade jam with you! Here’s some important information you’ll need to know before your scheduled Zoom. Please read thoroughly to ensure a successful class.

What to expect

Our live instructor will guide you, step-by-step, through our time-tested process of making jam. You will learn how to: 

  • Prep, combine, and cook ingredients. 

  • Jar and store your strawberry jam. 

  • Mix and try different ingredients to create your own jams! 

Before class

✓ Confirm you have access to Zoom.

✓ Purchase all items on Shopping List.

✓ Purchase jam jars and confirm you have all necessary kitchen supplies.

✓ Sterilize jars and caps by running in the dishwasher on its hottest cycle without soap. Add a steam dry cycle. Leave your dishwasher door closed until you're ready to fill your jars.

✓ Wash and dry fresh strawberries. If using unsweetened frozen strawberries, partially thaw before class.

✓ You will need access to a stove and a clean work surface during class.

Shopping List

❑ 1.5 lbs unsweetened whole strawberries (fresh or frozen*) 

❑ 2¼ tsp lemon juice (or ReaLemon®)

❑ 1 Box 1.75 oz Sure Jell® powder pectin** (NOT sugar free.) 

❑ ¼ tsp butter (salted or unsalted)

❑ 1.75 lbs granulated sugar 

* Fresh berries should be washed and dried before your Jam-boree®. Frozen berries should be partially thawed at the start of class for easier prep.

**Important: For best results, do not substitute with a different brand of pectin.

❑ 6-7 6oz Jam Jars (thread top, NOT lug top) 

❑ 2 mixing bowls (3-5 quart each) 

❑ Measuring cup with pour spout 

❑ Paring knife 

❑ Cutting board 

Kitchen scale with tare function

❑ Measuring Spoons 

❑ Large mixing Spoon 

❑ Ladle 

❑ Masher

❑ Spatula 

❑ Heavy bottom 3-quart pot 

❑ Small freezer bowl 

❑ Cloth towel to wipe Jars
